Past tense (ㅆ/았/었다)

"Alice pets the cat" is a bit unnatural because in real life "Alice petted the cat" would probably be more useful. Example sentences with action verbs look so awkward in present that I'm going to quickly explain past tense just so that my future example sentences don't give me anxiety reading them.

Example

  • 앨리스가 고양이를 쓰다듬었어요 = Alice petted the cat.

What about others?

We won't talk about these yet, but so some slight future-spoilers on future pages:

  • Past progressive: = Alice is petting the cat
  • Present progressive: = Alice is petting the cat
  • Future: = Alice will pet the cat

But you don't need to worry about those yet.
